In A Relationship

I have some exciting news to share with you all today, but you’ve probably already been able to guess by the title: I am officially in a relationship. We met late last summer, almost exactly one year ago, and have been talking/somewhat unofficially together ever since.

My family and I arrived at his parent’s house a couple of weeks ago on a Friday, after a long 12+ hour drive that began around 6 am. We spent the evening watching the amazing fireworks for Independence Day, and I already knew that it was the beginning of a wonderful weekend. The next morning after breakfast, my mom, sister, and I went to lunch and shopping with his mom and sister. We also stopped by his brother and sister-in-law’s place to see their beautiful new baby boy! We arrived back at the house, got ready, and began an informal ceremony involving eating sweets and taking a lot of pictures, and ended with a delicious dinner and spending time with close family. That night after returning home from prayers, we went out for ice cream, an almost-over BBQ at his friends apartment, watched TV for a few hours, and took a very late night trip to my first visit to White Castle. (I still cannot get over the 69 cent sliders and french fry option of size, “sack”)!

As exciting as all of this was, my favorite part of the weekend was the unplanned Sunday adventure we all took to downtown Chicago and then riding the ferris wheel and rides at Navy Pier. It was a very casual yet beautiful day, just enjoying the city with good sights and great company.

I know this blog is meant to share all the most important aspects of my life with you all, and it may seem strange to not have mentioned any of this anywhere on here in the past year, but I still am not planning on really publicizing this or other details of my private life because it is just a personal decision to keep certain things private. However, a ceremony or small dinner is what really signifies a serious relationship in my culture, and since my family and I went to Chicago to make things a bit more official, I finally feel comfortable sharing this news. I can’t even begin to tell you the many things I have learned about myself and about life within the past year because of this, but I do know that I have learned and grown a great deal; I can only hope that this is just the beginning, and I know that no matter what happens, my faith is what will continue to guide me, always.
