I realized that people aren’t all that different: young or old, male or female, rich or poor, we all are looking for the same things: peace/content in our hearts, a life free of turmoil. Love, or happiness, or both; we just have different ways of finding these. Some people believe it comes from within yourself, or from your faith. Others have not realized this yet and look for it in material success or power. Either way, happiness is the end goal.

I just can’t help but wonder, and imagine what my life would be like if things were different. If I didn’t have to live up to society’s expectations. Maybe I would travel. Yes, I would travel. Yes, I would waste time on a beach somewhere. Make friends with strangers I would normally never even think to hang out with. I would learn how to cook, finally. I would defy the rules. And party, who doesn’t want to party. I would learn Criss Angels tricks of defying gravity, vanishing, and mentalism. I would be a free spirit, and go where the road takes me. I would get a cheap little apartment in Venice, and work retail during the day, and sell artistic works or creative musical pieces at night, and the weather would be in the 80s year round, sunny, and I would barely get by but I would be happy because I’d be with the love of my life and later I would remember those days for the rest of my life. I would have a story worth telling my grandchildren, a story worth remembering. It’s nice to imagine.

In life, negativity is inevitable. People change, things go wrong, and you’ll make mistakes that you will grow and learn from. Life is too short to worry about things beyond your control so all you can do is soak up the good, let go of the bad, and give the world the best you’ve got and leave the rest up to God. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you’ve got anyway You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway. Everyone you meet is going through their own pains, and if we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back. Struggle is the meaning of life, and it should be embraced, because it only means you’re alive. Live life fully while you’re here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You’re going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive, with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell and when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive because it’s better to feel something than to feel nothing at all, and it’s better to absolutely ridiculous than to be absolutely boring. You will be dead soon enough. Life is divine chaos, oftentimes with more bad than good, but it’s all meant to be embraced. After all, life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about getting out there and dancing in the rain. Happiness is intrinsic. It’s in internal thing. When you build it into yourselves, no external circumstances can touch that happiness or take it from you. The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of every thing, they just make the best of everything they have. For most of life, nothing wonderful happens. If you don’t enjoy getting up and working and finishing your work and sitting down to a meal with family and friends, then the chances are you’re not going to be very happy. If someone bases his happiness or unhappiness on major events like a great new job, huge amounts of money, a flawlessly happy marriage or a trip to Paris, that person isn’t going to be happy much of the time. If, on the other hand, happiness depends on a good breakfast, flowers in the yard, a drink or a nap, then we are more likely to live with quite a bit of happiness. No matter where you go or what you do, you live your entire life within the confines of your head. Be your own palace, or the world is your jail. When God loves a creature he wants the creature to know the highest happiness and the deepest misery He wants him to know all that being alive can bring. That is his best gift. There is no happiness save in understanding the whole. The shortest distance between a problem and its solution is the distance between your knees and the floor. He who can kneel down to God can stand up to anything. And if your God is with you, then what could hold you back? It’s easy to read these quotes and say these things like you understand and agree with it all, but a person’s true character shows when one is able to apply all of these in a stressful situation and is able to turn it around into something positive.
