The Happiness Habit

Just like you cannot change the past or predict the future or control what others think, you also cannot control anything other than yourself. Everyone in the world wants to be healthy, loved, & successful, but most do not feel that they are, and even when they are, happiness is not guaranteed. Although it is perfectly okay to feel your emotions and have a bad day or week or even month, it is not okay to wallow in the misery of what simply cannot be changed- at least, not if you want to feel some resemblance to joy. You can, however, accept the negative, change what you can, and then focus on what is good. We may not have control over much, but we have control over the most important thing- ourselves.

If I want to change my life then no one else in the world can do it except me. I can change what I think, how I feel, the actions that I take, and how I perceive the things that are out of my control. I can’t look like anyone else, but I can live healthy and become the best version of myself. I can’t bring all of my family & friends into one city, but I can visit them every few months and on special occasions, and video call whomever I want each day to ensure I stay in touch with my loved ones. I can’t only think of myself and move and live however I choose entirely, but I can appreciate the love I do have in my life, let go of the small things, and make the most of the situation I am in. There is so much to be thankful for that I if I made a post on that, it would have to be titled, “The never-ending list of positive things to be grateful for” and it would, in fact, never end.
The point I am trying to make is that yes, life can be hard, but it will only be as hard as you make it. As I mentioned in my previous post, happiness is a habit- a daily choice– and no matter what happens in the world that is out of your control, happiness is possible for anyone who chooses to make the effort and stick with it consistently. Most importantly, life is short, so it is insanity to waste the few precious years we have dwelling on what we could have instead. Here is a little motivation for myself and anyone else who needs it today:
