Enough

Every once in a while, I accidentally get sucked into social media and get bombarded with rather purposeless superficiality or overwhelming negativity- lately it’s been the latter- and wonder when it will be enough. It’s nice to open your mind and yourself to knowledge of the issues in the world. It’s nice to stay true to who you are and it’s nice to show your support for what you believe on social media. But at a certain point, it is enough.

There is no point in dwelling on the negativity of others if there is nothing you can do to stop it. There is no point in letting the bad take over and make you forget about all the good. There is no point in placing blame or partaking in endless arguments with those who’s ignorance is stuck in place with the stubbornness of a broken machine (i.e people who insist that all 1.7 billion Muslims in the world are terrorists, to which I quite literally have to fight the urge to laugh uncontrollably and cry at the same time).

This world, full of war and hatred and greed and death, is the same world of peace, love, faith, beauty, joy, and kind people who hope for the best just like you. If you didn’t figure it out by now, our world is a crazy place. But today you are alive, and there is goodness within you and all around you in every moment if you choose to shine your light on it. Educate yourself and support your cause, but then either do something to change it or shift your energies on something positive and productive; life is short and there must be a better way to spend your valuable time, right?

Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place. –Kurt Vonnegut
